The Chess tournament comes to Newlands

It was a great experience to play the other schools. This gave us strategies to practise for the Wellington tournament.  Maximo

I loved the opportunity. I haven't been playing that long I lost a few games. . .  won a few. I managed to pickup a few skills along the way. Overall our team came 3rd. Kyla

Hungry Spiders!!(DongGun)

Spider Food 
Most spiders eat insects.  First they have to catch them.

Spitting Spider. . . Some spiders spitsticky poison at insects, they are called spitting spiders.

Hunters in Holes
Some spiders hide in a hole that has a lid.
They grab insects that come close to the hole.


Jumping spiders Some spiders can jump. They jump on insects to catch them.

Obnoxious - Maximo

Obnoxious is our word of the week and here are some interesting facts:
Obnoxious is when someone is annoying and they don't even know they're doing it.
Synonyms: annoying, evil, despicable, nasty, rude.
Antonyms: pleasant, lovely, nice.

        He is very obnoxious, he is very self centered and rude to
        others.      

        Etymology:  Has latin roots meaning to be nasty and harmful.                 

Conscious- Niamh

Conscious is our wow word this week.  When you are conscious you are aware of what you are doing and where you are.
Synonyms: Aware, awake, alert, alive
Antonyms: Unconscious, unaware
Etymology: Conscious is Latin, meaning to be active and awake.

Obnoxious- Krishnan

Obnoxious is someone's behaviour not their personality. An obnoxious person is someone who is very annoying,rude,offensive and just plain mean.Obnoxious people don't know that they're obnoxious themselves.I think obnoxious people are just lonely.  
Synonyms: mean,rude,evil,nasty,harmful,offensive.
Antonyms:pleasant,nice,lovely.
Etymology: This word has Latin roots meaning nasty and harmful.This word is dated back to over  500 years ago.

My House - Kyla

My house is a relaxing place
I've watched mountains of programmes there 
I've smashed a window there
I've demolisled gallons of food there
I've slept half a day there
I've even had people sleepover there
And those are are enough reasons why my house
is a relaxing place

My happy place- Jada

My bedroom is a relaxing place
I've always been comfortable there 
I've watched television there 
I've been scared there ahhh!
I've been on adventures there 
I've even made a mess in there 
Thats why my bedroom is my happy place

 My house is a fantastic place
I've watched millions of television shows there
I've jumped on my trampoline there
I've cooked dinner there
I've even burnt myself there

Tenses - Niamh

We have been practising to understand when to use the correct tense with verbs. 
Past: drank(happened already)
Present: drinking  (happening now)
Future: drink (Hasn't happened yet)

 1) We all drank coke on a really hot summers day.
2) She was drinking up all of the water and not sharing.
3) Tonight I will drink up all of my water at dinner.
